Oh, fucking hell.
SOMEBODY'S not happy about my vacation. New sofa bed is ruined. Guess I'm sleeping on toy surprise's pilates reformer tonight. My entire bedroom fucking reeks. (Bonus: Yay, allergies!)
So how do you retrain a cat to use the litter box? (When he hasn't exactly forgotten in the first place.) And how do you get cat pee out of suede? (All the enzyme cleaner did was re-stink up the room) And how do I ever have anyone over when it smells like crazy cat lady in here?
Most of all, how do I shake the feeling that I just can't have nice things?

I'm back!
I spent this past weekend in Joshua Tree National Park attending Climb Smart 2007 with the most excellent Fishing Mike. He sponsored our trip in celebration of my birthday this year, and it was absolutely amazing.
We camped out for two nights, scrambled over boulders as the sun was setting, saw the most amazing full moon, attended a variety of climbing clinics (movement, climbing, bouldering, anchoring) got to meet Brittany Griffith (A bad-ass climber, and hilarious! We bonded over Kelly’s “Shoes” video.) just missed winning a costume contest*, met some incredible people and gifted athletes, developed a deep and abiding appreciation for indoor plumbing, learned that I climb worse but belay better than I thought, and discovered you never know what you might find in the desert. And we picked up some pretty sweet swag at the raffle, too!
All in all-it was an awesome experience. Thanks for the best birthday yet!
* I should have worried about the duck.
Oh, wow.
This is a damn good post. More about Climb Smart 2007 after lunch.

Uh...
So I just discovered the joy that is google news, and their 'recommended for' section. Let's see what it recommends for me:
Can a Lack of Sleep Cause Psychiatric Disorders?
Attorney: Spears regains temporary visitation with kids
Whole-Grain Cereals May Lower Heart Failure Risk for Men.
What in hell have I been reading lately?!
(Administrative note: internet access at home and on my phone has been very sporadic. For that matter cell reception and text messaging has been sketchy too. I don't have access to email at work but I do have blogger. Oddly enough, the best way to reach me is to post comments here. Comment away! And if you/yours are affected by the wildfires, my thoughts are with you. Yeikes.)

SPEAKING of
I just can't....
Those of you who know me in person know what a princess I am. So the whole evolution of this rock climbing/camping/roughing it persona is pretty amusing.
No one is more amused than Fishing Mike. I open my email today to find this. The sad part? It's not actually a joke...

Just about 24 years ago… right now, I was going under anesthetic for an emergency c-section. I had been in labor for 45 hours. I was sleep deprived, starving, hideously sick and tired of being poked and prodded, and the only progress made toward delivery was a vague backache and the need to pee every 30 seconds or so. (Surprise!)
The decision was made to go into surgery. I burst into tears. I wasn’t a crunchy-granola-natural -birth kind of person, but I never expected to need medical intervention for a perfectly normal, instinctual process. I hadn’t even given birth yet and I already felt like a failure as a mother. In my fear, I assumed something had to be terribly wrong with either me or my baby or everything would be going smoothly.
The next thing I remember (…. ooooh, the drugs) I was freezing to death. I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t get warm and tried to look around. My eyes wouldn’t focus except for a mirrored light over the operating table which reflected back the fact that I was totally naked. With all the mortified indignity of a 17 year old I yelled as loud as I could for a blanket and blacked out for the next 10 hours.
As soon as I woke up I buzzed the nurse to ask about the baby:
Is it a boy or a girl? A GIRL!
Is she healthy? SHE’S PERFECT!
BRING HER TO ME!
That was in 1983. She’s still perfect. Happy birthday, sweetie! Xoxoxo Mom
Happy Birthday, Toy Surprise!
24.
24?
24!!!
Happy birthday to my beautiful, amazing daughter (My space link. That's how she rolls.) It's been an amazing year and I have so much to say I don't even know where to start. Welcome back home, and thank you for reminding me it's ok not to be so serious all the time.
Happy Birthday, sweetie. I still know something you don't know.

Withdrawal....
I'm experiencing internet withdrawal! (On purpose!!)
I don't have access to email or most of my regular websites (*cough*) METAFILTER (*cough*) at work, and I don't really have time to check them out anyway. My new job is hella busy, and the things I'm working on aren't really what I'm best at, so between being new, dealing with the normal learning curve, and being required to do fiddly things that don't come easily - multitasking is so NOT happening right now.
Between all that, adjusting to circusfaerie being home (Yay, extended slumber party!), trying to get to the gym on a regular basis and attempting to maintain some semblance of a social life, something had to give. And for now, I guess that'll be the internet. There goes my monitor tan....
(Send me emails anyway?)
