*Ohm*

So, circusfaerie's surgery is tomorrow. Everybody send lots of light, love and good energy her way. I know everything's going to be fine, and she's actually in a good place mentally about it right now, but every little bit helps.

And who knows, that good energy may just keep me from throttling my mom while I wait.

Ow, dammit.

My body's been telling me for months now to start taking care of myself, but have I listened? Nope. It's gotten to the point where I can't even find a comfortable way to sit.

New semester + circusfaerie worry + crap diet + sedentary lifestyle = achy, cranky Space Kitty.

Now if I get off my (ever-enlarging) ass, step away from the computer, and actually *do* the yoga dvd that's been staring me in the face all this time, maybe it'll do me some good.

Note to self: Tape this blog entry to the refrigerator and start doing instead of talking!

*slaps forehead*

  • I called the_bone today to brag about how well I did on my first French quiz. While I'm going on and on about how smart I am, I realize that I can't remember where I parked my car.
  • I went with another student to pick up an article from our psychology professor. He couldn't find the article right away, so he offered to email it to us. I mentioned I was giving him my 'real' email address, and not my spam account address and we went on to compare our level of incoming spam. Me: "Well, the bad news is my shiny new gmail account is already getting a ton of spam. The good news is, at least now I have a really big penis."
Fortunately, they both cracked up... and the link is safe for work. Unless your boss doesn't like the word penis, but since it's right above this paragraph, you're pretty much hosed anyway. Yes, I'm procrastinating, why do you ask?

Everybody's doing it.

My first meme, about my favorite subject. That's right - let's talk about me!

Bad news first: My Nohari Window.
Then give me the good news: My Johari Window.

Fun!

It's soapbox time!

I don't usually use this space to discuss controversial subjects. After all, SpaceKitty.com began with the goal of creating a virtual happy hour - and one simply doesn't bring dissent to the cocktail party.

That being said, a recent abortion rights blog entry at Pandagon hit very close to home. Literally. The case they're discussing here took place in the obscure midwest town where I grew up. (!) Among the many maddening things about this lawsuit is the enormous difference between the poster's description of the case vs. the description taken from the anti-abortion website. You wouldn't even know they're describing the same woman! It's just another example of the divisions in this country, and makes me wonder if/when/how people will stop talking past one another and actually begin to communicate.

Given that a loud, vocal minority takes it for granted that women are fundamentally incapable of making decisions about their own life, health and well-being - I'm afraid I'll be waiting a long time for that day to come.

What I've learned so far...

  1. Rate My Professors is the most useful website evah.
  2. In direct contrast to last semester, my French professor rocks. (She's so patient!)
  3. My school's bookstore sucks donkey balls. Hello, Amazon.
  4. SMC is more technologically advanced and more challenging than PCC. This is both good and bad.
  5. Textbooks are stupid expensive.
  6. I got away with murder last semester in terms of the amount of reading assigned. They're more than making up for it this time around.
  7. Sadly, this means I won't be going to the Berkeley Monkey Meetup. *cries*
  8. Caffeine and I are going to be very close friends this semester. That being said, the cafeteria coffee stand has already lost my business through sheer, unadulterated rude.
  9. Formal English composition makes me cranky. I don't like outlines and thesis statements. Looks like I'll have to get over that, and quick.
  10. I can't figure out where the young'uns find the time to go to school and party. And I don't even have a job!
  11. Hedgehogs are fucking adorable. (Via circusfaerie. Who else?)

It's been awhile.

Kimberly's birthday celebration was awesome. Everytime I see her and jim_t, it's like they never left. Memorable quotes:

  • It's like a clown car. Only without the clown. And the car.
  • Kimberly: This place screams class. Peter: CLASS!
  • Ninja, please!
We had a lovely birthday dinner at the local Italian restaurant and finally got to meet Chloe, who is officially the cutest cute that ever cuted. The only down side was the travelocity package deal. Peter and I ended up booked in a hotel* where the elevator didn't work, the toilet was backed up, and we were told there were no maintenance workers on the weekend. After the shift change, the next desk clerk let it slip that they couldn't call maintenance 'just for a plugged toilet'. So we had to change hotel rooms at 11 pm and didn't even get an upgrade. Next time? Embassy Suites.

*(Candlewood Suites - bring your own plunger!)

School is back in session, and due to a massive case of procrastination some of the classes I needed were full and some let out at the height of rush hour. Poor planning on my part, but the the good news is that the professors I've met so far are really excellent. On the schedule this semester is English 1, French 1, Psych 1 and Intermediate Yoga. It's a form of yoga I've never heard of before - it's called Dhana yoga. It's not what I expected, but it looks interesting.

Circusfaerie's surgery is right around the corner, and fortunately my schedule will allow me to spend a significant amount of time with her. Thursdays are the eternal day, with 3 classes - leaving me on campus from 12:45 - 9:50. Ouch. The psych class has an assload of reading, which I promised myself I'd start tonight.

Here we go...
